She was addressing a gathering of Deputy Commissioners, senior personnel of security agencies and elected representatives at the Ganabhaban on Tuesday through video conferencing.

“We shall not allow any terror outfit to thrive in Bangladesh. Bangladesh or Bangladeshis shall not become hostage to terrorists”, she said.

She was of the view that the development of the country was one of the reasons for the attacks.
“There are many who cannot bear to see this development”, she reasoned.
Taking a jibe at fanatical elements, she wondered what brand of Islam they wanted to establish if they could mount an attack on prayer congregations. She said that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and bigots were only bringing it into disrepute.
Noting that Bangladesh’s people were pious, she said, “It is beyond my comprehension how English medium students become attracted to such ideologies.”
