Omar bin Golam Rabbi was arrested with 22-year-old brother Hasib bin Golam Rabbi over the killings of their parents, who had emigrated from Bangladesh three decades ago.

Hasib, who had confessed to killing his father, but not his mother, according to police, will be tried now only in the case. He had earlier said that Omar was innocent.

Omar had told investigators that his brother killed both parents.

Police had recovered the bodies of Golam Rabbi, 59, and Shamima Rabbi, 57, on Apr 24 from their San Jose home, and later arrested their two sons.

Cynthia Sumida, Public Information Officer of Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney, told bdnews24.com that the court had decided to make 17-year-old Omar the approver in the case after relieving him of the charges.
Hasib is currently in the Santa Clara County Jail. The court is set for the next hearing on Jul 13.
His father Golam Rabbi, a younger brother of Imdad Sitara Khan Foundation Chairperson Sitara, was an engineer and Shamima an accountant. They had been living in the US for decades.
The couple was members of the Evergreen Islamic Centre and were described as “simple, gentle souls” by friends.
Rabbi had migrated to the US in 1976. He married Shamima in 1982 and then brought her to the US. Their sons were born there.
