Rickshaw-puller shot in clashes between Awami League supporters

A rickshaw-puller has been injured in a clash between two groups of ruling Awami League supporters at Posta in the capital’s Lalbagh.

The injured, identified as Abdur Rahman, 20, has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
 
Police said Rahman was shot in the left thigh when two groups of youths engaged in violent clashes on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Chawkbazar Police Station OC Shamimur Rashid told bdnews24.com that the clashes involved “two factions of ruling party men”.
 
DMP Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sarker said local Awami League leader Delwar Mia’s supporters fought with the followers of Ward-27 Councillor Delwar Hossain.
 
He said several persons were arrested at the scene.
 
The residents of the area said the two groups had been facing off against each other since Tuesday evening.
 
The clash erupted in Shahi Mosque area in the afternoon, spreading panic among the locals, they said.
 
DMP Assistant Commissioner Kaniz Fatema told bdnews24.com the two groups had been blaming each other for dealing in drugs.
 
She said police brought the situation under control.
