Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal handed over the prize on Tuesday to DAM’s Deputy Director and Head of the Heath Sector Iqbal Masud at a ceremony, marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking globally observed on Sunday.

Promise Medical Services received the second prize while BARACA that works on rehabilitation won the third prize in the annual competition.

DAM says it has been conducting anti-drug activities since 1990 and providing evidence-based drug treatment service to drug users since 2004.

Currently, it is operating three drug treatment and rehabilitation centres in Gazipur and Jessore for male drug users, and a Dhaka centre dedicated to female drug users.

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) selected it for the prize considering the “healthy environment of the treatment centres, specialist doctors, professional staff, modern and evidence-based treatment approach and other facilities for the clients.”

A crest, certificate and Tk 30,000 have been given as the first prize, DAM says.
