The decision had been approved at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Jun 9.

The unions added to North Dhaka are: Beraid, Badda, Vatara, Satarkul, Harirampur, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan and Dumni.

Those joining North Dhaka are: Shyampur, Dania, Matuail, Sarulia, Demra, Manda, Dakshingaon and Nasirabad.

The inclusion would increase Dhaka City’s area from the current 129 sq km to 270 sq km, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam had said after the NICAR meeting.

Elections will be announced in these unions once the wards are redrawn.
