An audacious daylight robbery in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh has exposed holes in police preparedness to prevent extortion and violence during Ramadan.

Around Thursday noon, five to six miscreants stopped 30-year-old NGO employee Saifullah Islam Murad while he was driving through the Glass Factory area.
After beating him up, they shot him on his right thigh and snatched Tk 0.5 million from him, ASI Bachchu Mia quoted local people as saying.
Bystanders rushed Murad to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Duty Officer of the local police station Ansar Ali said Murad worked for a Kamragarchar-based NGO.
Ali also said that a probe is on to trace the robbers.
