Dhaka mayors get rank and status of minister
The two mayors of Dhaka City Corporation have been accorded the rank and status of a Cabinet minister.

The Narayanganj mayor gets the status of a deputy minister.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam confirmed bdnews24.com of the government’s decision to up the mayors in the warrants of precedence.
“The status of mayors for the other city corporations remains unchanged,” he said.
Dhaka North and South mayors Annisul Huq and Sayeed Khokon will now enjoy the rank and status of a minister and Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy that of a deputy minister.
All of them are from the ruling Awami League.
Until 2009, when the Grand Alliance assumed office, Dhaka city mayor had the rank of a minister and mayors of the other city corporations state minister.
No ministerial status was granted to them after the Awami League-led alliance formed the government.
The matter did not pick up pace as BNP-backed candidates had been elected mayors in most of the city corporations.
