Two brothers detained at Dhaka airport with 14 kg of contraband gold bars, jewellery

Customs officials have detained two brothers with 14.3 kilograms of contraband gold bars and jewellery at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Customs’ Assistant Commissioner Rezaul Karim Hillol identified them as Mamun Khan and Murad Khan of Gazipur.
 
He said the two had returned to Dhaka from Singapore on a Thai Airways flight around Friday noon.
 
Hillol told bdnews24.com gold bars weighing 4kg and jewellery weighing 10kg were found on them during body searches while they were passing through the Green Channel.
 
Market price of the gold would be approximately Tk 71.6 million, he added.
 
Hillol said legal measures were being taken against the brothers, who had gone to Singapore on tourist visas on Jun 14.
