Six Bailey Road food shops fined for low-quality foods, rotten meat

A RAB-run mobile court has fined six food shops Tk 600,000 and jailed a manager at Bailey Road in Dhaka for selling low-quality and dirty foods and storing rotten meat.

RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam and BSTI official Farhad Hossain led the drive from 3pm to 6pm on Thursday, RAB-3 said in a media statement.

It said the court found around 40 kilogram of stinking rotten meat, stored in an out-of-order fridge for nine months, in Linchin Restaurant.

Dead cockroaches and other insects were also found in some meat pots.

The restaurant’s owner was fined Tk 200,000 and its manager Sabuj Mia, 26, was jailed for a month.

Redcourt Chinese Restaurant was fined Tk 100,000 for selling food by reprocessing them after the expiry of use-by date.

Nawabi Voj Restaurant and Haque Restaurant were fined Tk 100,000 each for making food in unhealthy and dirty places and storing them in unfit fridges.

Boomers Cafe and Golden Food were fined Tk 50,000 each on similar charges.
