Foreign Minister lauds US support to Bangladesh at US Independence Day celebration

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has lauded the US support for Bangladesh’s development, and said the ‘partnership’ still embraces new areas such as eradicating terrorism and violent extremism.

He was speaking at the US Independence Day celebration event at the embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday. Ambassador Marcia Bernicat gave “great rivers” as the theme of the celebration.

The foreign minister highlighted Bangladesh’s history and culture and its relations with the US, and said during the last four and a half decades, the bilateral relationship has grown “in depth and dimension”.

“Bangladesh deeply appreciates the significant contribution and consistent support of the US government through USAID in our development efforts since independence,” he said.

“During the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Barak Obama, our bilateral relationship has been institutionalized through formally established platforms of dialogues”.

He cited the trade ties and said “we are so happy that the annual bilateral trade between Bangladesh and the USA has now surpassed the mark of $6 billion. New items such as pharmaceuticals are expected to enter the U.S. market soon”.

“Let us continue to pursue the rights to a secure, better and dignified life for our two peoples as well as for the entire humanity”.
