Police claim the students, arrested following leads given by a ‘member’ of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), are also members of the banned outfit.

The suspected JMB member had been arrested on the same charges.

Assistant Commissioner of Rajshahi police Ifte Khayer Alam said crop science and technology students Abdul Gaffar and Mahbubur Rahman were arrested at Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall early on Monday.

“We are sure they are JMB members. Now we are checking their involvement in the murder,” the police official said.

He also said the security force was conducting a drive with the two arrestees to find other members of the group involved in the murder.

Police had earlier arrested five suspected members of JMB and a local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir over the murder that took place near the professor’s house on Apr 23.

The Shibir leader died in police custody.
