Barguna man gets death for murder of 10-year-old boy

A court in the southern district of Barguna has given death penalty to a man for murdering a 10-year-old boy on suspicion that he was a thief.

On Aug 5, 2015, fourth-grader Rabiul Awal was murdered with blows to the head at a village in the district’s Taltali Upazila.

His body was found the next day in a local canal.

On Tuesday, the court of Barguna’s Additional and Sessions Judge found 45-year-old Miraz Hossain guilty of the brutal killing.

It has also ordered the convict to pay Tk 2 million to the victim's family and ordered authorities to confiscate his assets to do so.

On a separate charge, Hossain has been given a seven-year jail term and fined by Tk 10,000.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Akhtaruzzaman Bahadur said that police arrested Hossain, after a case was filed against him by the boy’s family.

On Aug 23, police pressed charges against Hossain.

The court heard testimonies of 26 people, including the victim’s parents, local UP chairman, doctors and police, said Prosecutor Bahadur.
