Alam confirmed bdnews24.com of receiving the threat in a letter on Monday. It was sent by post to his office.

He said he has lodged a general diary with Shahbagh police over the threat on his life.

Shahbagh police Inspector Md Jafar Ali Biswas told bdnews24.com that the attorney general filed the complaint around 5:45pm Monday.

Alam said the sender of the letter held him ‘responsible for the deaths of many of their favourite leaders’ including BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat’s Abdul Quader Molla, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Motiur Rahman Nizami, who have been hanged for their 1971 war crimes.

Alam said, “It’s written in the letter that it came from Kishoreganj’s Bajitpur. I don’t think that’s true.”

The top legal officer of the state quoted from the letter, which read “Mahbubey Alam, you are the Satan. Your life is not secure. Many have died because of you. My friend Nurul Islam and I, Majnu, will kill you any moment.”

“We won’t spare you. Now we see that you are going too far with the cases of Mir Quasem Ali and Kishoreganj’s Hasan Ali.

“...we can’t stand this. We’ll kill you. And if Delwar Hossain Sayedee is hanged, then we’ll kill all members of your family. You have gone too far.

“My friend Nurul Islam and I will kill you within one month – this is our promise,” the letter said.

The supposed sender of the letter identified himself as Jamaat leader ‘Majnu’ of West Bajitpur in Kishoreganj’s Bajitpur Upazila and said his friend Islam’s father was late Razzak Mia.

“Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, eat whatever you want. You have a very small amount of time. ... Your lifespan has been reduced,” read the letter.
