Mohammadpur couple held, remanded over murder, alleged rape of 12-year-old house help
Police have arrested a shopkeeper of Mohammadpur Town Hall Bazar in Dhaka and his wife on charges of raping and torturing their 12-year-old house help Hasina Akter to death.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, Dhaka, granted the police a day to grill shopkeeper Shariful Islam and his wife Liza in custody after they were arrested in Gazipur on Sunday.
Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Pradeep Chandra Sarker, who is investigating the charges, while quoting the mother of victim, has said in the remand petition that Shariful and Liza had burnt the girl’s skin by using hot metals.
The also broke her elbow and knee joints and raped her, victim Hasina Akter’s mother Salma Begum alleged in the case.
Salma, who worked in Shariful’s house in Kathpatti, said she had sent Hasina to work in her place when she fell sick.
An unidentified youth took her to the hospital, providing fake addresses, on May 20. The girl died on Friday.
