Poll time violence in Comilla has left nine people injured.
Voters at 717 unions are exercising their franchise on Saturday in the fifth leg of the six-phase Union Parishad (UP) polls.
Voting started at 8am and will end at 4pm.
Noakhali’s Senior Election Officer Md Monir Hossain said that unidentified men barged into a polling station in Senbagh Upazila around 7:30am and made off with almost 700 ballot papers.
Those responsible for it are yet to be identified, but he said voting has been halted at the centre at Kalara Union.
Polls are being held in 25 unions on Saturday in Noakhali's Begumganj and Senbagh Upazilas.
In Comilla, where voting is being held in 34 unions, at least nine persons were injured in violence at a polling station.
bdnews24.com Comilla correspondent reported from the centre at Titas Upazila that a candidate’s supporters hurled crude bombs and opened fire in an attempt to capture the polling station.
Voting, however, has not been suspended as the incident took place outside the centre, said police.
Local police’s Inspector Farid Ahmed said that at least nine people received gunshot wounds and eight of them have been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
