UP polls member aspirant in Chittagong murdered outside voting centre

A member candidate for the Union Parishad (UP) polls has been stabbed to death outside a voting centre in Chittagong.

Voters at 717 unions are exercising their franchise on Saturday in the fifth leg of the six-phase Union Parishad (UP) polls.

Md Yasin, 40, an aspirant for the polls at Bara Utthan Union, was murdered during a clash outside the voting centre at Shah Mirpur Primary School, said police.

Police’s Deputy Commissioner Harunur Rashid Hazari told bdnews24.com that a clash between supporters of rival candidates erupted around 1pm.

“No security personnel were on the spot  during the clash. Yasin was stabbed to death by his rivals,” he told bdnews24.com.

Yasin was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said CMCH police outpost’s Sub Inspector Jahirul Islam.
