Driver, his assistant die as their human hauler overturns in Rangamati

The driver of human hauler and his assistant have died as their vehicle overturned in Kaptai Uapzila in Rangamati district.

Rangamati police said the incident occurred near Barhakhola BGB check-post under the Raikhali union on Thursday night.
 
According to police, assistant Saddam Hossain, 37, died on the spot while driver ‘Jabed’, 47, succumbed to injuries at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
 
Rangamati superintendent of police Tariqul Hasan said, “The vehicle overturned, as the driver tried to ignore a red signal at the check-post and speed away.”
 
Another man was also injured in the incident but police could not confirm his identity.
 
According to police, the vehicle, called Chander Garhi locally, was carrying wood.
 
Chandraghona police said a group of local people torched the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) check-post after the incident, triggering a clash that left at least 10 people wounded.
 
Police did not say why the vehicle was trying to flee.
 
Chandraghona OC Mohammad Ali said police personnel had been deployed to avert any untoward incident and the area remains calm.
