Nilphamari’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Mahbubul Alam gave the verdict on Wednesday.

Rakibul Hasan Pappu, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader from Domar Government College, was killed on Jul 17, 2013.

The killers slit his throat in a place near Mahiganj Bazar on Domar-Chilahati road, after he was called out of his house at Domar’s Chikanmati, said Ajijul Islam Pramanik, additional public prosecutor.

The victim’s uncle Mokhmudul Khan Chanu filed the murder case at Domar Police Station on Jul 18.

The case’s prime accused Kamruzzaman Sebu, 32, were among those handed the death sentence. The others convicted for the murder -- Sirajul Islam Nader, 46, and Buddhadeb Roy Baidda-- are absconding.

Defence lawyer Abdul Wahab Chowdhury said the court ignored evidence and gave the verdict based on suspicion.

“We will file an appeal after getting the case’s full verdict.”
