In Chittagong’s Rangunia Upazila, the dead body of one ‘Mohsin’, 40, was found on the bank of Rajkhali Canal at Khatib Nagar on Tuesday morning, police said.

He was known in the area as a follower of renegade aspirant Sirajuddoula Dulal from Islampur Union.

In Pabna Sadar Upazila, one Abul Kalam, 50, was hacked and shot dead on Tuesday night at Sadullapur Union’s Sreekol Bazar, said Ataikula police OC Abdur Razzak.

Kalam was a supporter of rebel candidate Abdul Quddus Munsi.

Quoting locals, Razzak said followers of the Awami League-nominated aspirant Rois Uddin attacked Munsi’s campaign office in the evening, where they murdered Kalam before fleeing.

Munsi and Rois have been at loggerheads in the lead-up to the voting, he said.

Speaking to
bdnews24.com, Munsi claimed that Rois had led his supporters in raiding the campaign office in the presence of police and the murder of Kalam.
Rois could not be reached for comment on the matter.
OC Razzak said additional police were deployed in the area, but rejected allegations that the murder had taken place before the eyes of the law enforcers.
Balloting for the fifth round of the staggered polls will be held in 729 union councils on May 28.
In Chittagong’s Rangunia, rebel candidate Sirajuddoula Dulal alleged Awami League candidate Iqbal Chowdhury Milton’s men killed his supporter Mohsin while pasting his posters on Monday night.
Milton has dismissed the allegation as a conspiracy to stop the voting.
Rangunia police OC Humayun Kabir told bdnews24.com that there were signs of wounds on Mohsin’s face.
He suspected the body was dumped beside the Rajkhali Canal after he had been murdered elsewhere.
