Shooting at UP polls camp leaves one dead, several injured

Shooting at a union council election camp has left a man dead and several others injured in Munshiganj’s Gajaria.

Gajaria Police Station OC Hedayetul Islam said Md Hanif, 30, and several others were injured when some unidentified miscreants sprayed bullets on a gathering at the Awami League candidate Monirul Islam’s camp at Hosendi Union on Monday evening.

Hanif, a home painter, was taken to Dhaka Medical Hospital where he died later in the night, the OC said.

He said the deceased was neither affiliated to any political party nor a follower of any candidate.

The area plunged into darkness due to a power cut during the attack.

The union council is going to election on May 28.
