The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Golam Kibria issued the order on Tuesday as the 10 accused had missed several dates in the case proceeding, flouting warrant orders.

Court police Inspector Anwarul Islam said the orders for confiscation of the assets of nine accused would be sent to Tangail Sadar police and the one for the other to Kalihati police.

Rana’s three brothers are former Tangail mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former Bangladesh Chhatra League vice-president Saniyat Khan Bappa and former Tangail Chamber of Commerce president Jahidur Rahman Khan Kankan.

The six other accused are the MP’s close aide Kabir Hossain, Darwan Babu aka Dant Bhanga Babu, former Jubo League leader Alamgir Hossain Chan, Nasir Uddin Noor, Sanwar Hossain and ex-ward commissioner Masudur Rahman.

On Apr 6, Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Aminul Islam accepted the charge-sheet in the case and issued arrest warrants for the 10.

The charge-sheet that the OC of district Detective Branch of police Golam Mahfizur Rahman pressed on Feb 3 named 14 people.

Four of them – Anisul Islam Raja, Mohammad Ali, Samir Mia and Farid Ahmed – are behind bars.

Awami League’s Tangail district unit member Faruk was shot dead on Jan 18, 2013. His wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail police three days later against unnamed assailants.

Later in a press conference, Nahar said Faruk had been murdered because he wanted to vie for the post of general secretary of the district Awami League unit.

She alleged that the four Khan brothers were involved in the murder. According to the charge-sheet, MP Rana’s aide Kabir shot Faruk dead when he refused to withdraw his candidacy for the post.

It said Anisul, Mohammad Ali, Abdul Haque, Samir and Kabir dumped the body in front of Faruk’s house at the instruction of the lawmaker.

Rana and Muki secured ad-interim bail from the High Court in the case but it was later stayed.

According to media reports, Kankan and Bappa have fled to some foreign country while Rana and Mukti are absconding in Bangladesh.
