The seven-time MP is suffering from a haemoglobin deficiency and is on hormone injection, he said.

Speaking to bdnews24.com on Monday, Hoque said, “He is much better now after battling a long spell of illness. But he will need some more time to fully recover.’

Despite his ill health, Sengupata does occasionally manage to conduct Parliamentary standing committee meetings and do his office work,” Hoque said.

The senior Awami League leader heads the parliamentary standing committee on the law ministry.

He was admitted to a private hospital at the beginning of this year because of breathing discomfort.

He had also gone to the US for treatment and is currently on a routine “follow-up”, Hoque said.
