Embassy displays Bangladesh’s cultural diversity on ‘open house’ day in Washington DC

Thousands of foreigners have visited the Bangladesh embassy in Washington in an “open house” event to get to know the cultural diversity of the country.

The embassy said they held the event on Saturday to mark the International Cultural Awareness month in honour of Cultural Tourism DC’s “Passport DC” in May.

The US Department of State proclaimed the event.

Over 3,000 visitors from all over the US and other countries visited the embassy at the ‘Open House’ programme from 10 am to 4pm.

Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin and all officers of the embassy welcomed the guests.

The ‘Open House’ programme included a cultural program and a display of Bangladesh’s handicrafts, tourism destinations and historical places.

Bangladesh’s rich culture and heritage as well as the country’s contribution to peacekeeping missions under the UN were also exhibited.

Local artists performed folk songs and dances.

The three wheeler ‘Rickshaw’ was also on display.

Visitors enjoyed the traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.

This was the ninth consecutive year that this cultural program was organised in the Bangabandhu auditorium of the chancery building, the embassy said.
