Police detain two presiding officers in Jamalpur polling stations for rigging

Security forces have detained two presiding officers in as many polling stations in Jamalpur, with stamped ballot papers.

As many as ten Union Parishads (UPs) are having polls on Saturday at Bakshiganj, Madarganj and Melandaha Upazilas of the district.

Police in Bakshiganj Upazila have detained two presiding officers— Md Anisuzzaman and Md Akramuzzaman—after they were found entering voting centres with stamped ballots.

Presiding officers are in-charge of an entire voting centre.

Bakshiganj Upazila administration chief Subrata Paul told bdnews24.com that voting has been suspended at the two centres in Sadhurparha UP following detention of the two officials just after 8am when the polling commenced.

Polls suspended at centre in Dinajpur

Authorities at the district’s Parbatipur Upazila have stopped voting at a centre following allegations of ballot snatching.

Upazila administration chief Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman said that voting has been stopped at a centre in Belaichandi Union.

The centre’s Presiding Officer Touhiz Uddin told bdnews24.com that 15 minutes after polls opened, Awami League candidate Nur Mohammad Raza entered the centre with 30 to 35 men.

“They snatched ballot papers and started to stamp them,” he said adding that voting was suspended on the orders of the local election office.
