IGCC remembered Rabindranath Tagore

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in Dhaka has celebrated the 155th birth anniversary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Three lectures under the title ‘myriad minded Tagore’ were delivered at the celebration on Friday.

The speakers highlighted the social, philosophical and poetic concerns of Tagore, who represents much of common heritage and philosophy of India and Bangladesh.

He was born on 25th Baisakh (May 7 1861) according to the Bengali calendar.

The two countries jointly celebrated the 150th birth anniversary with year-long programmes.

At the IGCC event, Hemal Shringla who is currently researching on English-language fiction in pre-independence India spoke on “women protagonists in Tagore’s novels”.

She studied linguistics in Mumbai University and taught in many universities in the world.

She is the spouse of Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka.

Rabindra Academy’s General Secretary Bulbul Mahalanobish spoke on ‘Rabindranath O Bishwa Manabata’ - Tagore the Humanist. Columnist MN Kundu spoke on ‘Kobi Rabindranath’ - Tagore the Poet, at the celebration.
