He made this statement on Saturday at an event organised by an NGO.

He blamed the spread of satellite TV culture, alcohol abuse and a slackening of the societal values as causes for the rise.

“As police commissioner, I have to deal with scores of cases of criminal offences children are committing that grownups often commit”, he said.

He said he believes that counselling of the children is the best recourse to reverse the trend.

He also called for mass cooperation in ensuring child rights protection.

He mentioned that he had conducted a workshop recently on the issue.

“A workshop with all the OCs in collaboration with women’s organizations was also organized this week,” he said.
