Three sisters drown in Shitlakkhya River in Narayanganj

Police have recovered the bodies of three sisters, washed away while bathing in the Shitlakkhya River in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila.

The bodies of the three minors were recovered from Belodi area under Daudpur Union on Wednesday afternoon, Kanchan police outpost SI Kahirul Islam said.

He identified the victims as Bedoli Namaparha’s third-grader Maksuda Akhtar, 9, her younger sister second grader Maria Akhtar, 7, and their cousin third-grader Habiba Akhtar, 10.

Islam said the three had sneaked away from home for a bath in the river around 12:30pm.

Alarmed family members searched the neighbourhood when the children did not show up even after two hours.

Police launched a search of the river when clothes of the victim were found lying on the river bank.

Their bodies were later recovered from the river at Belodi.

Rupganj police OC Md Ismail Hussain told bdnews24.com they were handed over to the families since there was no allegations or complaints of any foul play.
