Police arrest 3 Chhatra League leaders, activists for snatching mobile phones

Police have arrested three Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists on charges of mugging and violence in Barisal.

They were detained from Loharhat of Sadar Upazila on Wednesday afternoon, Bandar police OC Mahbubul Alam said.
 
The three face charges of snatching mobile phones, besides allegations of a scuffle with a group of Barisal University students, he said.
 
Those arrested are Bandar Chhatra League unit’s Joint Convenor Shakil Mridha, and activists Md Rakib and Faisal Hawalder.
 
All three are residents of Norkathi village under Bondor Police Station area.
 
According to Alam, six Barisal University students had gone boating along the Naharhat area at about 11am. As they were heading back, a group of 5/6 youths led by Shakil roughed up with them mid-river.
 
Based on a complaint filed by the students, police arrested the trio, the OC said.
 
A case has also been filed against them for a fast track trial.
