A labour ministry inspection team ordered the closure of the factories, KLD Apparels Ltd and Pratik Apparels Ltd, at Savar Municipality's Kornoparha, on Monday, said Upazila Executive Officer Kamrul Hasan Molla.

Factory Inspection Officer Ahmed Jamil said production in the factories, which have 1,800 employees altogether, was shut down on Tuesday following decisions of the Upazila administration and RAJUK.

RAJUK has also filed a general diary at Savar Model Police Station.

Savar model police OC Md Kamruzzaman said police were deployed in front of the building for the sake of safety.

Security guard Nazmul Haque said one Rohel Ahmed of Dhaka is the owner of the building.

KLD Apparels is housed on the ground and first floors while Pratik Apparels is on the second and third floors.

Haque said cracks were seen on the beams and walls in the fourth floor and the factories were declared closed for two days.
