As per the rule, for any transfer and postings of officials in the polls-bound areas, permission of the Commission is required.

The ministry on Tuesday issued a notification reinstating Rashid, who is also the general secretary of the Police Service Association, to his previous place of posting.

The EC had ordered withdrawal of Rashid and two OCs of Kapasia and Sreepur police stations on Apr 23, two days ahead of third phase of Union Parishad elections, following the murder of a member aspirant at Sreepur.

On the ministry’s decision, Election Commissioner Abu Hafiz told bdnews24.com that he was not aware of the reinstatement and that EC Secretariat might know about it.

EC Secretary Md Sirajul Islam too was in the dark about Rashid’s reposting in Gazipur.

“EC’s approval will be required for the reinstatement of that officer as elections are still pending in some UPs in Gazipur,” Islam told bdnews24.com.

“As per the law no official can be transferred or posted without our permission in that area until the gazette notifying the elections results was announced,” he said.
