The Fire Service has formed a four-member probe body headed by its Dhaka Division’s Regional Director Mozammel Haque.

“The probe body will look into the cause of the fire and assess the damage. It will also work on recommendations to avert such fires in future,” Haque told bdnews24.com.

The nearly two-hour-long fire on Sunday evening at the Hasina Market gutted at least 200 shops.

Most of these shops in the two-storey tin-shed establishment behind the ‘Janata Tower’ building were spice depots.

It took 25 fire-fighting units almost two hours to put out the flames. The fire service is yet to say what might have caused the fire.

Dhaka North Mayor Annisul Huq has assured the businesses that suffered losses that the damaged Karwan Bazar wholesale market will be restored in a planned way.

“I negotiated with the shop owners eight months ago. I hope we’ll be able to turn Karwan Bazar into a beautiful market just like we did at Jatrabarhi and Aminbazar,” he said.
