They died while working on May Day, a public holiday in Bangladesh being observed along with the rest of the world on Sunday with the pledge to strive for workers’ rights.

The accident occurred in the afternoon in the five-storey building adjacent to Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited head office at Dilkusha, Motijheel police OC Omar Faruk told bdnews24.com.

He identified the workers as ‘Swapan’, 18, and ‘Halim’, 22.

Their bodies were found around 4:30pm and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared them brought dead, Faruk said.

Motijheel police Sub-Inspector Nasir Uddin said one of the deceased workers was found on the ground right outside the building and the other was brought down by their colleagues.

“One had wounds on his body, but there was none on the other,” he said.

They suspected that one worker died from electrocution while the other fell off the building from the electric jolt.

The bodies of the workers are being kept at DMCH.
