“Special requests made by ministers, secretaries or directors on behalf of these teachers will yield counter-productive results,” he said while speaking at the inauguration of a conference of the principals of government colleges on Saturday.

The minister said, “There are so many teachers who are very eager to get transferred to the places of their choice. Out of every 100 teachers I meet, 80 pester me to get them transferred to Dhaka.”

He advised the teachers to apply online for transfers. “Genuine reasons will be given consideration... but no persuasion will be entertained.”

The conference, titled ‘Improvement of Quality of Education and Principals of Government Colleges’ was held at the International Mother Language Institute.

Principals of 329 institutions took part in it.

Nahid urged the principals to be good administrators beyond being good teachers.

The minister reiterated his intention to reduce the time span of public examinations.

“I personally believe public exams should not be stretched for long. Exams should not go for longer than 10 days.”
