Directorate of Secondary Education and Higher Education (DSHE) issued a directive to this effect on Thursday.

A school managing committee can reschedule classes, considering local weather conditions, the directive says.

It adds that institutions running two shifts can advance the time of classes suspending the daily assembly.

The five-point directive also asks school authorities to ensure safe drinking water for students during summer.

The ongoing heat wave has affected people's daily life, especially of labourers.

In the 24-hour weather forecast beginning at Thursday evening, the Met office said mild to medium heat waves sweeping Rajshahi, Tangail, Faridpur, Noakhali, Khulna, Jessore and Kushtia might continue for another two days.

The highest temperature in the country on Thursday was 40.2 degrees Celsius recorded at Rajshahi.
