Handcuffing or roping underaged persons is a clear violation of law, according to legal experts.

They were produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday evening.

Judge Lutfar Rahman Shishir ordered them into Juvenile Correction Centre after hearing a petition to grill them in police custody, General Recording Officer Altaf Hossain told bdnews24.com.

According to the details of the case, they are in the age group of 14 and 15 years, considered as juvenile by law.

Mirpur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Maruful Islam hadn initiated the case under explosives act.

The juveniles were arrested at Pirerbagh on Tuesday evening.

Court Police official Hossain said he had not noticed whether the adolescents were handcuffed.

He referred bdnews24.com to the OC of court detention centre, Murad Hossain, but he did not take call.

Former special court judge Sirajul Islam said everyone under 18 is considered as children and laws specifically forbid them being handcuffed or roped.

He said police do not follow these laws in most cases.

Lawyer Dulal Mitra said, “Lawyers, judges, justice-seekers see these incidents but no-one protests.”

“What’s the point writing about them?” he asked.
