They stopped bus services to and from the campus and agitated in front of different faculties since Wednesday morning.

Progressive Student Alliance, Anti-imperialist Student Unity and Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance enforced the strike.

They alleged that police launched attacks, at the instigation of the proctor, on the students demonstrating peacefully at the institution on Monday in protest against the murders and rapes of several people, including Comilla student Sohagi Jahan Tonu.

At least 20 students were injured and 12 arrested in Monday’s police action.

The students took out a protest procession against the police action and submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor on Tuesday.

Progressive Student Alliance leader Deepanjan Siddhanta Kajal told bdnews24.com, “It’s not possible to launch attacks on university students without the approval of the proctor.”

He warned the university authorities of tougher movement if proctor did not resign immediately.

Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance President Jubaer Tupu said, “The proctor has failed to ensure security of students. He has lost the moral right to continue as proctor.

“We’re requesting him to quit. Or else we’ll force him to go.”
