The minister said this on Tuesday in a meeting with the Cable TV Operators' Association held at the Secretariat.

"A policy code must be devised. I support it in principle. This arrangement exists everywhere", he said.

For now, cable TV operators will not have to seek permission and can decide on the number of cable TVs that can operate in a district, he said, stressing that the government did not favour a monopoly.

He said that the government was looking into the need to formulate a policy with a positive bent of mind.

Without a policy framework, it was losing revenue from movies and other cable TV broadcasts, he said.

The minister endorsed digitization of cable TV operations, saying it was a current need.
