Banariparha police OC Ziaul Ahsan said the boy, Hafizur Sheikh, died at the Upazila Health Complex late on Thursday night while undergoing treatment.

Hafizur’s father ‘Ripon’ is a rickshaw-puller. The family lives in a rented room at Badla Mridha’s house near Banariparha municipality’s T&T intersection.

Mridha’s wife Nupur Begum, who reportedly injured the boy, is on the run since the incident, Ahsan said.

“We are trying to catch her,” he added.

Quoting the child’s family, the police official told bdnews24.com Hafizur was crying in their room on Thursday evening. An infuriated Nupur came in and threw him on the hard ground, hurting his head and chest.

The boy was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex first and later shifted to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Doctors there recommended the child’s transfer to Dhaka for better treatment but it was beyond the father’s means.

The boy was readmitted to the Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries, said Ahsan.
