Danish envoy observes Farmer Organisation’s work in Panchagarh

Danish Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskjær has visited a ‘Farmer Organisation’ in northern Panchagarh district to see the activities there.

According to the embassy, the purpose of the Tuesday’s visit was to learn about the “purpose, formation process, activities, successes and challenges” faced by the Farmer Organisation (FO) and its members.
 
The Danish government is supporting the Integrated Farm Management Component (IFMC) project that helps farmers to unite under a FO. About 1,100 such FOs has been formed in different districts.
 
Poor and marginalised farmers become members of the group, which collectively faces the marketing challenges of their produce.
 

Small scale farmers in Bangladesh, in marketing their produce, face common challenges in terms of transport costs, undue interference by middlemen, marketplace facilities, toll collection, time allocation and market information.
Denmark has a long history of development cooperation with Bangladesh, particularly in the agriculture, fishery and livestock sectors.
The ambassador visited the Ziabari Farmers’ Organization, which was established in December 2013.
She observed the market linkage training, business plan development and its practices. She also visited the production sites and discussed with the producers about marketing challenges and opportunities.
