They are Md Najibur Rahman of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), Md Abdur Rab Hawlader of the National Parliament Secretariat, Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan of the industries ministry, and Zafar Ahmed Khan of the water resources ministry.

An order of the public administration ministry on Monday said they have been promoted but will remain posted in their current departments.

With them, the executive branch now has 14 senior secretaries, a rank that did not exist in public service until 2012.

According to the latest pay scale, their basic salary will be Tk 82,000.

An administration cadre of 1982 BCS, Najibur Rahman was made the IRD secretary on Jan 11 last year. He is also the ex-officio chairman of the National Board of Revenue.

In his career spanning more than three decades, he has held important positions at different ministries and at the United Nations.

Born on Dec 31 in 1960, Rahman will retire on Dec 30, 2019.

Mosharraf Hossain joined the public service through the 1981 BCS batch. Before being appointed as the industries secretary in October 2014, he served at the Bridges Division in the same capacity.

He was made an ‘officer on special duty’ (OSD) during the turmoil over the Padma bridge’s financing by the World Bank.

Abdur Rab Hawlader previously served in the religious affairs and the science and technology ministries.

The Department of Environment and the expatriates’ welfare ministry were Zafar Ahmed Khan’s workplaces before he was posted as the water resources secretary.
