Awami League, BNP supporters clash outside Comilla polling station

A clash between supporters of rival candidates erupted outside a polling station on Thursday in Comilla just after voting for some Union Parishads (UP) started.

Witnesses said shots were fired during the clash at North Borurha Khoshbash Union.

The clash broke out after the BNP-nominated chairman candidate was injured in an attack by Awami League supporters outside the voting centre in Arifpur Govt Primary School.

“Voting was disrupted for some time due to the violence outside the centre,” Presiding Officer Shoyeb Ahmed Amir Hossain told bdnews24.com.

BNP-nominated chairman candidate Jakir Hossain said that he went to polling station after hearing that  Awami League supporters were stuffing stamped ballot papers into boxes. He was attacked and injuried on the head.

“We are looking into the matter. The voting has resumed (at the centre),” District Election Officer Rashedul Islam told bdnews24.com.
