College student allegedly gang-raped in Pabna’s Santhia

A college student in Pabna’s Santhia Upazila has reportedly been gang-raped.

According to Santhia police SI Zakir Hossain, the victim, a graduate student of the Pabna Edward College, filed a rape case on Monday.
 
Quoting her close relatives, the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council’s district unit General Secretary Binay Jyoti Kundu said the family had gone to a neighbour’s house where a programme of kirtan (Hindu devotional songs) was being held.
 
The girl was the last one to leave their house.
 
Kundu told bdnews24.com some local men – two named ‘Hafizul’ and ‘Farid’ among them - whisked the girl away and gang-raped her at a nearby canal.
 
“The culprits fled when locals rushed to the spot on hearing the girl’s screams,” he added.
 
According to Pabna Sadar Hospital doctor Sabera Gulrukh, the victim’s medical tests revealed evidence of rape.
  
The victim’s mother said the rapists were threatening the family.
 
“They did not let us leave the house for 24 hours. If we go back to the area, they will kill us. I demand justice,” she said.
 
Deputy Commissioner Rekha Rani Balo met the victim at the hospital on Tuesday.
 
Police are looking for the accused men.
