Monday’s regular Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the drafts in principal for the government entities, which are now operated by a resolution and an ordinance issued in the 1970s.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters after the meeting that the PIB was created through a 1976 resolution.

The new law provided for a 15-member board for the PIB with a two-year tenure, he said. “The PIB will be responsible for training of those in the mass media.”

Meanwhile, the BSS is being operated under a 1979 ordinance.

The Cabinet secretary said the new law is being formulated according to it as a Supreme Court order declared all ordinances during military rules illegal.

He added that Monday’s meeting has also approved the draft of the ‘SAARC Youth Charter.’
