BJP leader Ram Madhav lauds PM Hasina’s leadership

Visiting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Secretary General Ram Madhav has appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

In a courtesy call Madhav paid to Hasina at Ganabhaban on Saturday, he said her leadership brought stability in Bangladesh.

"The dynamic and charismatic leadership of the Premier has ensured stability in Bangladesh,” Hasina’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted Madhav as having said in the meeting.

“...the development that is taking place in the country under her stewardship is visible and overwhelming," Madhav said.

Madhav said all Bangladeshi political parties should participate in elections to strengthen democracy.

The BJP secretary general thanked Hasina for her government’s effort in ensuring security of the minority communities.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the existing relations between the two countries that she said Bangladesh attaches the highest importance to.

She thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).

The prime minister also said India has been enjoying uninterrupted democracy, while Bangladesh's democracy suffered hits several times.

She said democracy in Bangladesh has now been continuing and election to the lowest tier of local government body – Union Parishad, like ‘Panchayet’ in India – is going to be held from Mar 22.

She said her Awami League is a party that never compromises when the issue is democracy.

Her International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla were present at the meeting, among others.
