Tipoo sent the letter on Sunday, 10 days after the prosecutor was removed from all investigations and legal suits ‘in public interest’.

The chief prosecutor told bdnews24.com he sought action against Ali for certain ‘errors’.

The allegation against Ali is that of using his influence to help an accused being tried by the ICT to secure bail.

Tipoo wrote it was important for the law ministry, which had appointed Ali, to take action against him for ‘breach of discipline’ and ‘professional misconduct’.

Law Minister Anisul Haq told bdnews24.com in the afternoon he was yet to receive the letter.

“Steps will be taken once we get it,” he said.

Copies of the letter have also been sent to the law secretary, the attorney general and the office of the tribunal registrar.

ICT issued a notice on Feb 4 withdrawing Ali from the cases of Al Badr Shamsul Haq, Hossain Tarafdar and others.

He had also been barred from taking part in any ICT trials till further orders.

The chief prosecutor said the step had been taken in ‘public interest’ but did not elaborate.

Media reports had earlier said Ali had helped an accused secure bail.

Ali told bdnews24.com late in the evening that he had learnt of the letter from media reports.

In 2014, Tureen Afroz had lodged a complaint with the Shahbagh police against suspected pilferage of data from her computer.

Mohammad Ali had lodged a counter complaint, demanding an investigation because he and Afroz happened to share the same room.
