Smartphones for instalments of TK 30, says state minister Tarana Halim

Smartphones will become available at instalments as low as Tk 30, State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim has said.

The initiative was aimed at making technology accessible to those at the grassroots. “We want our farmers and workers to be able to buy them for Tk 2,000.”    

She was speaking at the launch of a website for ‘Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB)’ on Thursday.   
 

“We’ve spoken to Ericsson, which provides infrastructure for telecommunication. They have talked about manufacturing mobile chips in Bangladesh,” she said. 

"That will create more jobs and lower mobile phone prices." 

She said Walton, too, had said that mobile phones could be had by paying in small instalments. 

“They said it was possible to purchase smartphones in instalments of Tk 25 to Tk 30.”
