They have been asked to come up with their explanations on Feb 22.

The High Court also issued a rule on Thursday asking the health secretary and the chiefs of the health directorate and drug administration directorate why a case should not be filed against the hospital after investigation.

It also asked why the hospital authorities should not be ordered to compensate the family.

The respondents have been directed to submit their explanations by Feb 22.

The High Court issued the summons and the rule of its own volition when Supreme Court lawyers Idrisur Rahman and Toufique Enam Tipu drew its attention to newspaper reports on the incident.

According to the reports, RAB, Directorate General of Health Services and Directorate General of Drug Administration conducted a joint raid on the hospital at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Wednesday.

They found the baby dead. The doctors said it had died on Tuesday morning.

The authorities, however, did not inform the family about the baby’s death. They rather slapped a bill on the family, saying the baby was being treated at the ICU.

Six persons related to the hospital were fined Tk 1.15 million for charging money by keeping the dead baby at the ICU, treating babies with inexperienced doctors and conducting tests without biochemists.

They were also sentenced to different terms in jail.
