In New Delhi, he held a meeting with his Indian counterpart Rajiv Mehrishi.

During his brief stopover to Agartala on Wednesday, Dr Khan inspected the ongoing work of upgrading the Bangladesh Mission Office to an Assistant High Commission office.

He also visited the Agartala border checkpost.

The home secretary interacted with the officials posted there and took note of the progress made in introducing the system of machine readable visas and machine readable passports at the centre.

He said the new method of machine readable visas would help visitors and further strengthen the relations between India and Bangladesh.

As per initial plan, he was supposed to return to Dhaka via Kolkata. But he changed his plan and decided to pay a visit to the land border and border outpost in Tripura.

“I thank the governments of India and Tripura for their help right from Bangladesh’s Liberation War till date. We are ever grateful for India for its help and good brotherly attitude.”

Before crossing the border, the home secretary also visited the Agartala checkpost and interacted with the BSF and BGB officials.
