The same court has also ordered police to investigate another complaint filed against him under the ICT Act over the same offence.

KM Belayet Hossain, Advisor to the Chittagong metropolitan unit of the Awami League, filed the sedition complaint while former Juba League leader Saifuddin Ahmed Robi lodged the other under the ICT Act.

Following hearings on Tuesday, the court of Chittagong’s Metropolitan Magistrate Faridul Alam asked Kotwali police to take action over the sedition charge and Panchlaish police to investigate the charge under the ICT Act.

Robi had previously filed a defamation suit against Latif seeking Tk 10 billion in damages.

Distorted images of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on billboards, installed in Chittagong by Latif during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to the port city, drew widespread criticism, particularly on social media.

The billboards displayed a photo of the nation’s founding father, but the posture, attire, and shoes do not match those which marked him out in his lifetime.

Amid agitation by a faction of the local Awami League, Chittagong-11 MP Latif appeared before the media on Sunday with the designer of the advertising firm responsible for the billboards.

The designer admitted to super-imposing Bangabandhu's face on Latif's body.
