Police Inspector Md Sazzad Hossain said there were around 150 male students on the streets when police dispersed them around 9pm on Sunday.

He said the students blocked Road No 2 in Dhanmondi. Traffic on Mirpur Road was also hampered.

The HSC candidates had been protesting the shift of their exam centre from nearby Government Laboratory School to Residential Model College.

Quoting some protesting candidates, bdnews24.com photographer Tanvir Mahmud, who witnessed the demonstration, said that the students had met their principal after learning of changes in the seat plans.

The principal had asked for some time, he added.

Since their demand was not fulfilled within the determined time, the candidates launched a protest.

Witnesses said some of the protesters climbed the wall of the college and vandalised windows.
